[edit] Walkthrough

Clear the lava pool of at least the stationary Destroyer of Lives in the direct path to the Great Destroyer. It is not necessary to kill all of them. Stand on the hardened lava crusts, but beware that the Great Destroyer will convert them to lava using Lava Ground. Eventually there will be no safe area in the room.

The Great Destroyer will summon a random group of 3-5 Destroyers using Call of Destruction. Be sure to interrupt this skill, and brace immediately for Enraged Blast. Consider also interrupting Lava Wave as it is the Great Destroyer's only healing skill. Otherwise, switch to life stealing or health degeneration while the Great Destroyer is submerged. Ward of Stability can help immensely against the repeated knockdown of Lava Blast. Consider bringing skills such as Frigid Armor or Avatar of Melandru that negate burning.

Party-wide condition removal by skills such as Cautery Signet and Martyr are only a drain on energy because burning is re-applied every 3 seconds in lava. Instead, bring Light of Deliverance and spam it to heal through the burning. Bringing a Ritualist with Recuperation and Recovery to place just outside the lava pool when you first enter will significantly help with burning.

Frigid Armor or Avatar of Melandru can be a great help to your monks, as they stop the burning effect. With 8 ranks in Water Magic and a 20% longer enchanting mod, frigid armor can be kept up almost continuously. Using Pain Inverter on the Great Destroyer will make it very easy to defeat him, as when he casts any of his nukes he will take 80 damage for each ally hit which comes to a total of 640 damage with 8 allies hit.

Easily doable with two people and heroes. Bring two LoD monks (three if you're unsure), a ranger with interrupts, a blood/degen necro or mesmer, a couple of air spikers, and whatever else. Simply attack and heal, and cycle Pain Inverter between the two humans.

Using a modified 55 hp monk build, this mission can be easily soloed (allowing "runs" of the mission)

Additionally, rangers with the touch ranger build can solo this mission by bringing 2 other touch rangers (heroes), one LoD hero monk, both healer henchmen, and 2 other henchmen who don't interrupt (Talon and Eve would be ideal - with Talon Silverwing being an extra tank and Eve for energy regeneration through blood ritual). This build will also work for Hard Mode.

Briefing from the Scrying Pool.

Quest Log: "In every age there are heroes and villains, victors and vanquishers, saviors and destroyers. You stand today at a precipice between the past and the future, facing a choice with effects that will ripple throughout time. Become the stuff of legend or one of history's forgotten. May the future hold a world where your exploits this day are told as an inspirational tale of courage, persistence, and hope. Go now. Meet the Great Destroyer, and may the gods smile on us all."
Defeat the Great Destroyer:
<random team member>: "Keep away from the lava blast! Watch where you tread!"
<random team member>: "Everyone, keep to the hardened lava or you'll burn to death!"

<random team member>: "We can't hurt him while he is defensive. Kill his minions!"

<random team member>: "Interrupts enrage him! Use them wisely."
