[edit] Description
The Black Moa is a particularly nasty looking charmable Moa Bird that achieved legendary status among Kurzicks. The bird has coal black feathers, blood red eyes and spiked bracers around its legs and neck. This bird allegedly assaulted four young men who were traveling in Ferndale. So bloody and terrifying was the assault that most of them could not even remember where it actually took place.
Finding and dealing with the elusive, mysterious, cunning, devious and despicable Black Moa is the objective of the quest The Beak of Darkness. Oddly enough, there are sometimes two Black Moas roaming in the same area, contrasting with the quest and many people's belief that there is only one.

- Ferndale: In a clearing outside Aspenwood Gate (Kurzick) during the last phase of the Beak of Darkness quest, and any time after it has been completed. Be wary of Mungri Magicbox, a monk Dredge boss in a double-monk gang usually roaming this area.

- The Black Moa can be charmed and will provide a unique statue in the Monument of Fellowship.
- Approaching Nehdukah and his company in Plains of Jarin with a Black Moa will cause them to shout certain phrases and run in terror.

- After finishing the quests, the Black Moa will still be there and can be captured.
- Unlike any other animal, the Black Moa will provide +5 Faction when slain under the influence of the Blessing of the Kurzicks.
- The Black Moa can be renamed but the ally list will still refer to it as a Black Moa for the first time you capture it.
- This pet has an automatic "Elder" level evolution when charmed, you cannot get a Dire or Hearty Black Moa.

- Nehdukah claims Zho lost her left eye to a Black Moa while he was saving her from its grasp. Zho does confirm she lost her eye to the Black Moa in her journal and in an idle quote on Shing Jea Island.
