Doppelganger (formerly known as Mirror Self) is the final foe before Ascension, faced during Augury Rock (mission), and needs to be defeated in order to proceed in the game
Characters that go up against their Doppelganger will see the following differences: The Doppelganger equips the same skills the player equips when facing it, which is one of the keys of defeating it. It has 12 rank in every attribute except for Swordsmanship, Axe Mastery, and Hammer Mastery. It is always armed with an Eternal Bow or a Flame Artifact (dyed black) and a Chaos Axe, all of Max damage, and will switch weapons if the player it is facing comes in melee range or moves away again. It has also been observed wielding a Tormented Spear.
After defeating the Doppelganger, the player acquires 50,000 experience points and is teleported to Dragon's Lair. Also, if the Doppelganger is defeated in under 10 minutes, the player is awarded 1000 additional experience points; this counts as the bonus for the mission (needed for the Protector of Tyria title).
Rangers that face the Doppelganger should note that animal companions are NOT duplicated.

- The Doppleganger has 480 Health in normal mode and 680 Health in Hard Mode.
- The 50,000 experience points are only awarded if the character has not already ascended by completing the Canthan mission Nahpui Quarter, the Elonian quest Hunted!, or by defeating the Doppelganger before. However, a Canthan character that has completed the "Hunted!" quest but not Nahpui Quarter is still able to gain the 50,000 experience. It is possible that an Elonian character who has done the reverse is likewise still eligible for the 50,000 experience benefit.
- This does not seem to apply to characters from Prophecies as a player from Prophecies who does either or both of those will still get the 50,000 experience award
- Although it wields an axe, the Doppelganger can also use Sword, Hammer, Dagger and Scythe Attack skills. It is also seen using spears and scythes. It can even perform a dagger-based dual attack with the axe.
