[edit] Summary
The Identification Kit is used to identify items. Double click on it to use, then single click on any identifiable item to learn its properties or to unlock a rune contained in that item. Identifying items also raises their sell value to the merchant. Even if an item is not declared unidentified, you can still use Identification Kits ("ID kits") to identify them, usually boosting the item's sell value to merchants by a small amount of gold.
Quest items and certain other items, such as the Unique Items available in the Divine Path are not identifiable.

It can be obtained from the following collectors:
- Imperial Quartermasters in exchange for 1 Imperial Commendations
- Kurzick Quartermasters in exchange for 1 Equipment Requisitions
- Luxon Quartermasters in exchange for 1 Luxon Totems.

It can be obtained from the following collectors:
- Sunspear Quartermasters in the Sunspear Great Hall in exchange for 1 Battle Commendation
- Smugglers in the Command Post in exchange for 1 Kournan Coins
- Wandering Scribes in the Gate of Desolation in exchange for 1 Ancient Artifact
- Secret Keepers in the Gate of Torment in exchange for 1 Inscribed Secret
Furthermore, the collectors Marik Kuri and Hai Lae on Shing Jea Island and Adhitok on Istan offer a version that has only 10 uses, similar to the "cheap" version of the Salvage Kit.

- An Identification kit charge costs 4g(2g resale value), so while identifying white(common) items may reveal a higher price than what the merchant would normally give, doing so might be counter-productive when used on items of a value of less than 40g. (Current research shows that the average gained amount is 8-12% of the base value.)
