Non-player character

Non-Player Characters, or NPCs are any characters in the game world that are not controlled by a human player. While the term includes both friendly and hostile characters, in practice players will often use the term "NPC" to refer to friendly NPCs, and the term "Mob" or "Monster" to refer to hostile NPCs, although this is not always the case.
