The Frog is a very wise amphibian who could be described as an oracle. Periodically, ArenaNet staff members use him as a way to speak to the community. Sometimes they release tidbits of information about future updates of the game. He even replies when being addressed (provided an ArenaNet developer is "logged in" as The Frog). The Frog most often appears in the International District in Kamadan.
The Frog's words, often in rather cryptic riddles, appear in golden font in the public channel.
It is unconfirmed whether or not Gaile Gray controls The Frog all of the time because she often appears when The Frog does. Neither will confirm or deny this claim. However, in one Frog session, she was accusing The Frog of being late, and sent a message as herself instead of The Frog, proving she did control The Frog at that time. It also appears that Liana Briarwater controls The Frog at times, as she has been seen speaking as The Frog during a Frog session, but via her own character with the standard staff purple text.
[edit] Ambient frog locations
Frogs can be found as ambient animals in a number of places around Kryta.
- Gates of Kryta (outpost): one on the small hill behind the henchmen, near a cart and one in the straw tent near the Xunlai Agent
- Lion's Arch: near the Xunlai Agent, by the tree,by the gate leading to the big fountain
- Divinity Coast (mission): sitting in the far northwest corner.
- The Black Curtain: hopping through the swamp waters just south of the Temple of the Ages
- Sanctum Cay (mission): about halfway upstream in the river, near the first encounter with Undead
- Shing Jea Monastery: During the Dragon Festival 2007, it appears on a grassy area next to the bridge between the storage area and the exit to Sunqua Vale.
- Warrior's Isle, near the trebuchets.
- Wizard's Isle, near one of the trebuchets.
- Kamadan, Jewel of Istan, near the entrance to Churrhir Fields.
